Jihadist magazine re KSM charges

Jihadists appear to be getting quite frustrated that the West just won’t believe that Jihadists are motivated, inspired and directed by Islamic doctrine and Islamic law.

MEMRI, 10 Dec 09: The article, titled “Replies to the American Charges: Khalid Sheikh Muhammad, and Colleagues vs The United States of America,” appeared in the Nawa-i-Afghan Jihad, a monthly magazine posted on jihadist websites. . . . .

. . . . “Insofar as the nine charges on which the U.S. has taken legal action against us are concerned, we think that these are not charges, these are honors for us; these are medals of honor. We are thankful to Allah who considered us capable of waging jihad in the accomplishment of Allah’s orders, that we wage war and fight against the United States, in order to accomplish Allah’s orders and destroy you all.

“The United States is trembling under its feet at the name of Jihad; it is caught in the fear that we will destroy and annihilate it by attacking it. We have taken these steps because the U.S. has attacked the Muslims of Pakistan, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Iraq . . . .

. . . . “Your first charge is that we conspired to attack the United States. We could not restrain ourselves from laughing at hearing this allegation. Your intelligence agencies were unaware of our planning, despite all their expertise and talent. How could you be more powerless? Not even a hint of our planning reached your ears. Before leveling this charge against us, go and reprimand your intelligence agencies, bring them to the court, and charge them.

We have all rights to plan and execute our war cautiously and with all secrecy. The Great Allah states in the Holy Koran, Chapter Nisa, Verse 71: ‘O ye who have professed Islam, be always prepared for the challenge, and go out in different groups or together as may be the situation.’

“There is a saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him) that war is a campaign of deceit.” . . . .

. . . . . “We will continue to fight you for all eternity to safeguard our religion and our community, as our religion and the worldly laws permit this to us. We Muslims believe in the Koran, the Book of Allah. We follow the orders of the Koran, and we will continue to fight in accordance with them, and for this our most Merciful Lord has granted us permission.

“Verse 29 of Chapter Al-Hajj: ‘Permission to fight (against disbelievers) is given to those (believers) who are fought against, because they have been wronged, and surely Allah is able to give them victory.’

“Verse 190 of Chapter Al-Baqra: ‘And fight in the way of Allah those who fight you, but transgress not your limits. Truly, Allah likes not the transgressors.’” . . . .

Facebook adopts new privacy settings

On 10 December 2009, in Uncategorized, by admin

Washington Post, 10 Dec 09: Uh, about that status update on Facebook last night….you may want to make sure that information isn’t available to more than just your friends.

The popular networking site introduced new privacy settings on Wednesday that are supposed to give its 350 million users more control over what information they share and whom they share it with.

But public interest groups are concerned that Facebook’s default settings for how far that information can travel are too broad. They also worry that the new program could open up a user’s personal profile information to anyone on the Web unless instructed otherwise. . . . .

. . . . “We’re asking our 350 million users to think about privacy for the first time,” said Tim Sparapani, Facebook’s director of public policy. (Post Co. Chairman Donald E. Graham is on Facebook’s board of directors.) “We’re actually giving our users control over their data and asking every single one of them to go through the process of deciding how they want to share.” . . . .

TSA Hands Al-Qaeda Its Playbook

On 10 December 2009, in Uncategorized, by admin

PJM, 10 Dec 09: Terrorists love details. Al-Qaeda’s U.S. embassy bombers knew the thickness of the embassy walls — a key detail in figuring out how much explosives were necessary to take the buildings down. The Mumbai terrorists had copies of the floor plans to the Taj Mahal Hotel before beginning their three-day siege.

The 9/11 hijackers took no less than 33 test runs in the months leading up to America’s worst terrorist attack; they cased airports and watched how flight attendants did their jobs. Terrorists do homework. They conduct intense reconnaissance missions so as to maximize the death toll on the day of their actual attacks.

This week the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) — the agency tasked with keeping you and your family safe on airplanes — literally handed al-Qaeda its playbook. . . . .

. . . . One of the more troublesome exposures that must be addressed is the publication of undercover agents’ ID cards — including those for CIA officers and federal air marshals. . . . .

The largest group of federal law enforcement officers in the country wants action, not backpedaling. John Adler, spokesman for the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA), told the House Homeland Security Committee, “Both TSA’s posting of sensitive security information and their unwillingness to grasp the seriousness of this are unacceptable.” Adler asked for closed-door congressional investigations, including a “meaningful damage-control assessment.” . . . .

DHS, 9 Dec 09: Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano today officially launched Virtual USA, an innovative information-sharing initiative—developed in collaboration with the emergency response community and state and local governments across the nation—that helps federal, state, local and tribal first responders communicate during emergencies.

“Our first responders need interoperable tools to make accurate and timely decisions during emergencies,” said Secretary Napolitano. “Virtual USA makes it possible for new and existing technologies to work together seamlessly during disaster response and recovery and gives the public an opportunity to contribute information in real-time to support the efforts of police officers, firefighters and other emergency management officials.”

. . . . Virtual USA links disparate tools and technologies in order to share the location and status of critical assets and information—such as power and water lines, flood detectors, helicopter-capable landing sites, emergency vehicle and ambulance locations, weather and traffic conditions, evacuation routes, and school and government building floor plans—across federal, state, local and tribal governments. . . .
