Independent, 17 Nov 09:  . . . . . But every attempt I have made up to now to get into their heads – including talking to Islamists for weeks at their most notorious London hub, Finsbury Park mosque, immediately after 9/11 – left me feeling like a journalistic failure.

These young men speak to outsiders in a dense and impenetrable code of Koranic quotes and surly jibes at both the foreign policy crimes of our Government and the freedom of women and gays. Any attempt to dig into their psychology – to ask honestly how this swirl of thoughts led them to believe suicide bombing their own city is right – is always met with a resistant sneer, and yet more opaque recitations from the Koran.

Their message is simple: we don’t do psychology or sociology. We do Allah, and Allah alone. Why do you have this particular reading of the Koran, when most Muslims don’t? Because we are right, and they are infidel. Full stop. It was an investigatory dead end.

But then, a year ago, I began to hear about a fragile new movement that could just hold the answers we journalists have failed to find up to now. A wave of young British Islamists who trained to fight – who cheered as their friends bombed this country – have recanted. Now they are using everything they learned on the inside, to stop the jihad. . . . . .

Pak spy held with vital documents

Times of India, 17 Nov 09: Just as Indian agencies are trying to decipher the role of a US-based Lashkar duo in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks comes the busting of another Pakistan-sponsored espionage ring.

The Delhi Police arrested a Pakistani spy just as he was set to board a flight to Saudi Arabia along with a set of vital documents relating to some defence installations including Ghaziabad’s Hindon airbase and Meerut cantonment area.

Acting on a tip-off from Intelligence Bureau, the police arrested him at IGI airport on Saturday when he was trying to board a flight using a fake passport bearing the name of Aamir Ali.

Though spy rings and sleeper cells of Pakistani intelligence agencies are busted regularly in one or the other part of the country, Aamir alias Jabbad alias Abdul is considered to be a prize catch as police seized a number of vital documents from his possession indicating that he was a leader of some bigger ring spread across central and western Uttar Pradesh. . . . . .

Der Spiegel, 17 Nov 09: An explosive trial about to start in Munich involves a spy accused of betraying state secrets to his gay lover. It promises to expose the shadowy world of Germany’s foreign intelligence and may end up damaging the service. . . . .

. . . . .  .The defendants are Anton K., a BND agent for many years, and his interpreter. The trial revolves around money and the betrayal of secrets. Love, sex and a betrayed wife are also part of the checkered tale, which takes place against the seedy backdrop of Kosovo’s criminal underworld. . . .

Hasan’s Islamic Mind

On 17 November 2009, in Uncategorized, by admin

FrontPageMag, 17 Nov 09:  Frontpage Interview’s guest today is Abul Kasem, an ex-Muslim who is the author of hundreds of articles and several books on Islam including, Women in Islam. He was a contributor to the book Leaving Islam – Apostates Speak Out as well as to Beyond Jihad: Critical Views From Inside Islam.

I would like to talk to you today about the Fort Hood massacre. Not surprisingly, the media is doing its best to paint Hasan as some kind of frustrated loner who acted out of mental imbalance. This is, of course, against all the tidal waves of evidence to the contrary.

Tell us a bit about what we have learned about Major Hasan and what, as an expert on the Islamic faith, and as ex-Muslim, you make of it. . . . . .
